Who publishes this site

FootySphere is an independent Australian football statistics project, published under the FootySphere name. It brings AFL and AFLW records together in searchable questions, player and club profiles, match centres and statistical analysis.

The purpose is to help you investigate a football question and inspect the records behind the answer. FootySphere is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the AFL or its clubs. A source link identifies supporting material; it does not imply a partnership.

Where the records come from

FootySphere combines third-party football records with its own calculations and presentation. Historical results, player records and coaching records are checked against AFL Tables. Official fixtures, match statistics and reference material are obtained from AFL sources, including AFLW fixtures, player records and award histories.

These sources do not all cover the same years or fields. A score from an early match may survive when possession counts, scoring times or player positions do not. The Data & Glossary lists definitions and recording periods; individual results show their scope and available evidence.

A missing value is not a recorded zero. When source records are incomplete or incompatible, a field may remain blank rather than being estimated. Different sources can also use different definitions, so matching the period and calculation is essential before comparing figures.

What FootySphere adds

The site connects player, team, opponent, venue, season and match records so you can ask a specific question and follow the answer back to its supporting games. Totals, per-game averages, qualifying-game counts and streaks are different calculations; each answer needs its measure and population stated.

Automated tools assist with interpreting questions and producing explanatory text. Numerical answers are calculated from recorded data. Profile summaries are generated from structured career records; they are not eyewitness reports. An apparent change in a statistic does not establish an injury, tactical change or cause.

Publication checks and limitations

Public question pages use publication checks for agreement between the question, calculation, answer, scope and supporting table. Automated validation helps identify inconsistent results. Publication status is not a claim that every record or generated sentence has been independently checked by a person.

For an analysis, the supporting figures and arithmetic must agree with the stated selection. Interpretation must stay within what those figures establish. Calculated comparisons identify minimum-appearance rules and incomplete coverage. Ties remain ties even when a table displays one name first.

Historical records and published sources can contain errors. The displayed period and coverage determine what an answer supports; a statement about recorded games is not necessarily a complete all-time record.

Updates and corrections

Live information can change while a match is in progress. Completed results and historical corrections are incorporated when the available records have been checked. Updates are not guaranteed to arrive at the same time as the original provider. Dated article examples are snapshots and should be read with their capture dates.

To report a problem, send the page URL, the player or teams, season and match where relevant, the value you believe is incorrect and a supporting source if available. First check whether both figures include finals and use the same games and statistic definition.

Corrections should address the underlying record or calculation so dependent pages can be rebuilt consistently. Until a discrepancy is resolved, treat the affected comparison with caution.
