Ball winning & movement

  • D Total disposals (kicks + handballs), used as the base measure of how often a player gets involved with the ball.Recorded since 1965.
  • K Kicks, showing how often a player chooses or is forced to use foot skills rather than handballs.Recorded since 1965.
  • H / HB Handballs, often used to track quick release work in close traffic and link play.Recorded since 1965.
  • M Marks, awarded for a clean catch from a kick that travels at least 15 metres.Recorded since 1965.
  • CP Contested possessions won under physical or direct opposition pressure at the contest.Recorded since 1999.
  • UP Uncontested possessions won in space, often reflecting team ball movement and structure.Recorded since 1999.
  • CL Clearances from stoppages that move the ball away from congestion toward open play.Recorded since 1998.
  • CC Centre clearances from centre bounces, useful for measuring first use after a restart.Recorded since 2012.
  • SC (Stoppage) Stoppage clearances from boundary throw-ins or ball-ups around the ground.Recorded since 2012.
  • I50 Inside 50 entries that deliver the ball into the attacking arc and create scoring opportunities.Recorded since 1998.
  • R50 Rebound 50s that clear the ball from defensive 50 and launch transition play.Recorded since 1998.
  • MG Metres gained from disposals and ball carries, indicating territory won by a player.Recorded since 2012.
  • GBG Ground ball gets, measuring loose-ball wins at ground level before an opponent secures it.Recorded since 2012.
  • KI Kick-ins taken after an opposition score behind, restarting play from defence.Recorded since 2024.
  • KI% Kick-in percentage share, showing what portion of a team's kick-ins a player takes.Recorded since 2024.
  • CBA Centre bounce attendances, tracking how often a player is used at centre-bounce setups.Recorded since 2024.
  • CBA% Centre bounce attendance percentage, the player share of their team's centre-bounce usage.Recorded since 2021.
  • HO Hitouts won by rucks from stoppages to direct the ball to teammates.Recorded since 1966.
  • HTA Hitouts to advantage that give first possession opportunity to the ruck's team.Recorded since 2012.
  • HOW% Hitout win percentage, showing how many ruck contests become hitout wins.Recorded since 2012.
  • HTA% Hitout-to-advantage rate, showing the quality of hitouts rather than only volume.Recorded since 2012.
  • RC Ruck contests participated in, giving context to hitout and ruck workload numbers.Recorded since 2024.
  • BO Bounces taken while running, usually reflecting line-breaking play and carry intent.Recorded since 1999.

Scoring & conversion

  • G Goals worth 6 points each, the main scoring output for players and teams.Recorded since 1912.
  • B Behinds worth 1 point each, including misses and touched shots that still score.Recorded since 1965.
  • BR Rushed behinds conceded by a defending side under pressure near goal.Recorded since 1931.
  • SOG Shots at goal (goals + behinds), often used to judge scoring chance creation.Recorded since 2012.
  • SI Score involvements where a player directly contributes to a scoring chain.Recorded since 2012.
  • GA Goal assists where a player's action directly sets up a teammate's goal.Recorded since 2003.
  • M50 / MI50 Marks inside 50, a key indicator of quality forward entries and separation.Recorded since 1999.
  • SHACC% Shot accuracy percentage, measuring what share of shots at goal become scoring shots.Recorded since 2012.
  • GACC% Goal accuracy percentage, measuring what share of shots become full goals.Recorded since 2012.

Contest, defence & pressure

  • T Tackles laid to stop or pressure disposal and force stoppages or errors.Recorded since 1987.
  • TO Turnovers, counting possessions lost to the opposition through errors or pressure.Recorded since 2012.
  • CM Contested marks taken in direct opposition, often in high-pressure aerial contests.Recorded since 1999.
  • IM Intercept marks taken from opposition movement before they can complete possession.Recorded since 2012.
  • INT Intercepts of any type, including marked and non-marked possession regains.Recorded since 2012.
  • SP Spoils that neutralize opposition marking chances in defensive or aerial contests.Recorded since 2012.
  • CD1 Contested defensive one-on-ones entered while directly matched against an opponent.Recorded since 2012.
  • CDL% Contested defensive loss percentage, showing how often those one-on-ones are lost.Recorded since 2012.
  • CO1 Contested offensive one-on-ones entered as the attacking player in direct duels.Recorded since 2012.
  • COW% Contested offensive win percentage, showing how often attacking duels are won.Recorded since 2012.
  • PA Pressure acts applied around the ball carrier or nearby contest to disrupt play.Recorded since 2012.
  • 1% One-percenters such as spoils, smothers, and shepherds that help team defence.Recorded since 1999.
  • FF Frees for, counting free kicks won by a player or team during a match.Recorded since 1965.
  • FA Frees against, counting free kicks conceded through infringements.Recorded since 1965.
  • CG Clangers, capturing costly mistakes such as direct turnovers or major execution errors.Recorded since 1998.

Fantasy, efficiency & game time

  • SC (Supercoach) Supercoach fantasy score based on weighted actions and impact events.Recorded since 2012.
  • DT / AF Dream Team / AFL Fantasy score using the standard fantasy points system.Recorded since 2012.
  • EFF Disposal efficiency percentage, the share of disposals considered effective.Recorded since 1965.
  • TOG Time-on-ground percentage, showing how much of the game a player is active.Recorded since 2003.
  • MIN Minutes played estimate derived from TOG% and match duration context.Recorded since 1990.
  • Games Games played, used for totals, per-game averages, and availability tracking.Recorded since 1912.

Team & ladder metrics

  • Points Match scoring points calculated as goals x 6 plus behinds x 1.Recorded since 1912.
  • Points Scored Total points a team has kicked across a season or selected period.Recorded since 1912.
  • Points Given Up Total points conceded by a team across a season or selected period.Recorded since 1912.
  • Free Kick Differential Net free-kick margin (frees for minus frees against).Recorded since 1965.
  • Avg For / Avg Against Average free kicks won or conceded per game.Recorded since 1965.
  • P Games played on the ladder, used as the base denominator for season records.Recorded since 1912.
  • W Wins on the ladder, counting matches where a team finishes ahead on score.Recorded since 1912.
  • L Losses on the ladder, counting matches where a team finishes behind on score.Recorded since 1912.
  • D Draws on the ladder, counting matches where scores are level at full time.Recorded since 1912.
  • % Ladder percentage calculated as points for divided by points against x 100.Recorded since 1912.
  • Pts Premiership points on the ladder used to determine standings.Recorded since 1912.
  • Rank / # Ladder placing or leaderboard rank label, depending on context.Recorded since 1912.

Role & context fields

  • Jersey # Jumper number worn by the player for that specific game entry.Recorded since 1912.
  • Pos Position field tied to the player's role data for the match.Recorded since 2012.
  • Round Round name or number used to place a game in the season schedule.Recorded since 1912.

Positions

DEF (Defenders)

  • DEF Broad defensive group focused on intercepting, contesting entries, and exiting defensive 50.
  • FB Full Back, usually the deepest key defender anchoring direct goal-side matchups.
  • BPL Back Pocket Left, defensive pocket role helping lock down space and support exits on the left side.
  • BPR Back Pocket Right, defensive pocket role helping lock down space and support exits on the right side.
  • BP Back Pocket, small or medium defender role covering dangerous forward pocket threats.
  • CHB Centre Half Back, key intercept and body-on-body defender in the central defensive corridor.
  • HBFL Half Back Flank Left, rebound role balancing defensive accountability with left-side ball movement.
  • HBFR Half Back Flank Right, rebound role balancing defensive accountability with right-side ball movement.
  • HBF Half Back Flank, general half-back role used for transition support and defensive coverage.

MID (Midfielders)

  • MID Broad midfield group responsible for contest work, spread, and moving play between arcs.
  • C Centre, inside stoppage role at centre bounces focused on first possession and clearance work.
  • WL Wing Left, outside running role providing width, overlap support, and transition coverage on the left.
  • WR Wing Right, outside running role providing width, overlap support, and transition coverage on the right.
  • W Wing, general wing role with high running demand and two-way transitional responsibility.
  • R Rover, inside midfielder role reading ruck taps and winning contested ground ball.
  • ROV Rover, equivalent rover shorthand used for inside stoppage-mid involvement.
  • RR Ruck Rover, midfielder supporting the ruck at stoppages and driving first outside link play.
  • INT Interchange, bench rotation role used when a player is temporarily off the ground.
  • IC Interchange (alias), interchange label variant used in some data feeds.
  • SUB Substitute, tactical replacement role with managed match minutes and impact bursts.
  • EMG Emergency, reserve listing indicating a non-selected standby player.
  • EMERG Emergency (alias), alternate emergency code variant in source data.

FWD (Forwards)

  • FWD Broad forward group focused on creating shots, applying front-half pressure, and converting scores.
  • CHF Centre Half Forward, key link forward role connecting entries from midfield to deeper targets.
  • HFFL Half Forward Flank Left, forward pressure and lead-up role operating from the left half-forward channel.
  • HFFR Half Forward Flank Right, forward pressure and lead-up role operating from the right half-forward channel.
  • HFF Half Forward Flank, general half-forward role combining pressure, link disposal, and score assists.
  • FF Full Forward, deepest key attacking target tasked with winning one-on-ones and finishing chances.
  • FPL Forward Pocket Left, crumbing and pressure-forward role around the left side of goal.
  • FPR Forward Pocket Right, crumbing and pressure-forward role around the right side of goal.
  • FP Forward Pocket, general pocket-forward role focused on front-and-centre contests and finishing.

RUC (Rucks)

  • RUC Broad ruck group focused on hitouts, stoppage setup, and aerial contests around the ground.
  • RK Ruck, primary ruck designation used in older and mixed provider sources.
  • RU Ruck (alias), ruck label variant used in selected datasets.

Coverage by year

Some stats only exist from the year they were first recorded. Older seasons may show blanks.

  1. Games — Match results from 1912 onward.
  2. Stats — Goals from 1912; most other stats build from 1965 onward.
  3. Advanced stats — Supercoach, Dream Team, pressure, and tracking stats from 2012 onward.
  4. Positions — Positional fields are available from 2012 onward (role coverage is broader from 2024).
  5. Scoring progression — Individual scoring events from 2001 onward.
